Bay College honored its 2017 Outstanding Part-Time Educator at an awards dinner held on April 18. Don Johnson Agency/MEEMIC Insurance sponsored the Outstanding Educator Awards. To receive consideration for the award, faculty were nominated by a colleague, student, or someone from the community. The primary focus of this award is to acknowledge faculty’s commitment to education and excellence in service to others.
Joanna Wilbee-Amis is a part-time faculty member in our Business Division, specializing in all things marketing. She was hired at Bay College on August 27, 2012, and holds a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Marketing from Western Michigan University. She is also nearing completion of a Master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Social Media Marketing from Southern New Hampshire University.
Joanna has extensive experience working within the marketing industry, both with her own Hobnob Communications company as a freelance marketing communications specialist, as well as with various positions she held in Chicago and Atlanta with Feld Entertainment and Advantage International. Her client list is a veritable who’s who of successful organizations that includes such groups as Cirque du Soleil, Madison Square Garden Entertainment, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Disney on Ice, the WNBA, the NCAA Final Four, and even Gloria Estefan. She’s also worked with numerous local companies with national reaches such as Stormy Kromer, Marble Arms, Murdick’s Fudge, and many more.
Mark Kinney, Dean of Business and Technology stated, “Obviously, this type of experience allows her to bring a wealth of knowledge and industry insight to the classroom. Our students benefit greatly from what she has to offer, which is reflected in some of their comments in their evaluations of her.” When asked to comment on the course, students wrote, “I really enjoyed the class overall, very fast at grading, cared about us students, and made a diverse learning environment.” “Great teacher. Definitely learned a lot in this class. I would say overall there is nothing you have to do to improve anything.” “I really enjoyed the class and it felt like the semester went by really fast to be honest. I would definitely recommend others to take this class for sure. I totally see and hear advertisements differently now for the better.”
A quote from a colleague stated, “Joanna’s knowledge of marketing, business, and economics comes from education and working in the field. She is an asset to the students by being able to provide real life examples.”
