Bay College’s partnerships with other colleges and universities, like Michigan State University, create meaningful opportunities that directly benefit educators and the community. For example, August 6-8, 2025, Bay College adjunct instructor and MSU professor, Matt Oney introduced local K–12 teachers to hands-on engineering projects that align with Michigan’s new science standards. By using creative activities such as designing and testing paper airplanes and launchers, teachers gain experience with incorporating engineering into their classrooms—something many may not have had exposure to before. Workshops like these help teachers develop the confidence and skills needed to bring engaging, engineering-focused learning to their students.
This partnership also strengthens ties between institutions, expanding access to resources across the state. Bay College serves as a hub for training in the Upper Peninsula, with teachers traveling from Escanaba, Gladstone, Ironwood, and beyond to participate. With workshops held at both the Escanaba and Iron Mountain campuses, educators across the region can benefit from this collaboration. By connecting local teachers with statewide expertise, Bay College and Michigan State University are working together to foster innovation in education while supporting the needs of Michigan schools and communities.
