The Bay Film Series at Bay College announces its Fall 2025 schedule. For over 30 years, the Film Series has celebrated the art of filmmaking. With an art-house sensibility, we highlight experimental and character-driven movies, focusing on independent, foreign, and local filmmakers. Our annual “Race to the Oscars” is our signature event.
This fall, the Bay Film Series will present a shortened schedule as Bay College proudly welcomes Players de Noc during their recovery from the recent fire that displaced the theater group from their home stage. In the spirit of community support and collaboration, the Film Series will feature two powerful titles this season.
On October 30, we will be showing Sinners, one of this year’s top contenders for the Best Picture Oscar. While vampires and horror films are not typical Film Series fare, this movie has critics and audiences alike enraptured and entertained. Star Michael B Jordan and director Ryan Coogler are both in line for possible Oscar nominations.
As Rolling Stone magazine stated, “If Sinners is messy, it’s sometimes pretty glorious, too. Coogler is swinging wide and far beyond the boundaries of franchise fare.” Critic Adam Kempenaar encapsulates the film: “Sinners is a redemption movie, a revenge movie with elements of Blaxploitation, and certainly a red-blood-soaked horror movie; it’s also deeply romantic and has the rhythms and audaciousness of some of our boldest musicals.”
On November 20, we will show the documentary UnBroken, a heart-rending and life-confirming true story of a woman who embarks on an international journey to find her six siblings and mother who escaped Nazi Germany. Says online critic Daniel M Kimmel, “UnBroken confronts some of the horrors of the Holocaust, but its focus is on seven siblings who managed to survive. You won’t forget your encounter with this remarkable family.”
All Film Series movies are shown in Bay College’s Besse Theater at 7 p.m. EST. General admission: $5, under 18: $2. Bay students get FREE admission by showing their college ID at the ticket window. Tickets are available at the Besse Center Box Office or online, visit www.baycollege.tix.com
