Bay College is proud to recognize its 2026 Outstanding Graduates, honoring students who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, leadership, perseverance, and dedication within their fields of study. Each year, faculty from the College’s six academic divisions select one student whose accomplishments and character exemplify the qualities of success both inside and outside the classroom. These students represent the very best of Bay College through their commitment to learning, service, and personal growth.

Allied Health Division

Shanna LaRock recently completed the RN Bridge program at Bay College after previously earning her LPN credential through the College’s nursing program. She will soon relocate to Green Bay, where she has accepted a position on a medical unit to continue expanding her nursing experience. Her long-term goals include becoming a labor and delivery nurse and eventually serving as a nursing instructor. During her time at Bay College, LaRock was actively involved both inside and outside the classroom. She participated in the Student Nurses Association, held work study positions, and served as a student representative for her nursing cohort. Outside of nursing, LaRock enjoys playing pickleball and volleyball, attending concerts, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Arts and Letters Division

Laura Jean Bowers began her journey at Bay College with the goal of building a career that would support her family. Along the way, she rediscovered a passion for writing and helping others communicate effectively. Bowers is now preparing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in creative writing at Southwest Minnesota State University, with the dream of one day becoming a professionally published writer. Outside of academics, she is a full-time homeschooling parent to four boys and has been married to her spouse for 20 years. Their family is preparing for an exciting new chapter as they relocate to Oklahoma to purchase property, build a cabin, and establish a homestead. Deeply passionate about nature and sustainable living, they view this long-awaited transition as the fulfillment of a dream years in the making.

Business Division

Gabriel Viau is graduating with an associate of arts in business administration along with additional degrees in business, marketing, and a certificate in entrepreneurial small business. He is known for his strong leadership, work ethic, and focus on management and organizational performance. Viau currently works at Island Resort & Casino’s Horizons Steakhouse, where he has advanced from busser and host to server and bartender, gaining valuable experience in customer service and fast-paced operations. On campus, he served as president of Business Professionals of America and was an active member of Phi Theta Kappa, Campus Activities Board, and Civics Corps. He has earned recognition including Valedictorian of Bark River-Harris High School, Dean’s List honors, the Outstanding Graduate Award in Business, and membership in the All-Michigan Academic Team. Viau plans to pursue a career in corporate management, where he aims to lead teams, improve operations, and contribute to organizational success.

Math and Science Division

Adrian Rhode is graduating with an associate in science in pre-engineering. He has built a strong academic foundation while pursuing his passion for discovery, innovation, and scientific research.

Driven by a deep curiosity for engineering, physics, and mathematics, Rhode aspires to enter a high-level research field where he can contribute to advancements in science and technology. Following graduation, he plans to transfer to either Michigan Technological University or University of Michigan, with his decision guided by available research opportunities that align with his academic and professional goals. Rhode’s journey at Bay College is far from over. In addition to continuing his studies at a university, he plans to return to Bay for another year to earn a second degree in Pre-Molecular Biotechnology, further expanding his interdisciplinary background in science and research. Passionate about learning and eager for the future, Rhode is excited to continue building his career in science while taking the next steps toward making a meaningful impact in the research community.

Social and Behavioral Sciences Division

Dawn Robinson-Johnson’s journey to becoming an outstanding graduate is rooted in dedication, perseverance, and a deep commitment to both her family and career. Originally from Canada, she moved to the Upper Peninsula after meeting and falling in love with her husband. Today, Robinson-Johnson is a proud wife, mother of three wonderful children, and “Granny” to what she describes as the best granddaughter ever. As a lead teacher at Escanaba Head Start, she has spent her career helping shape and inspire young learners while balancing the responsibilities of full-time work and family life. Through the flexibility and support offered by Bay College, Robinson-Johnson was able to pursue and complete her degree while continuing to work full-time, an accomplishment she says she is deeply grateful for. Her story reflects resilience, compassion, and a lifelong commitment to growth and education. Robinson-Johnson is honored to be recognized as one of Bay College’s Outstanding Graduates and hopes her journey inspires others to pursue their goals, no matter where life begins.

Technology Division

James Maki has demonstrated resilience, determination, and dedication throughout his educational journey. After graduating from high school, he attended University of Michigan through the prestigious HAIL Scholarship program. In 2022, following his mother’s cancer diagnosis, Maki made the difficult decision to leave the university to help care for his family. Through the support of the Michigan Reconnect scholarship program, he was able to continue his education at Bay College, where he pursued technical training and began building a career in the automotive industry as a technician. Maki is committed to continuing to grow his technical knowledge and hands-on expertise as he works toward his goal of becoming a certified master technician.

The 2026 Outstanding Graduates reflect the diverse experiences, talents, and aspirations that make the Bay College community strong. Whether balancing careers and family responsibilities, pursuing leadership opportunities, overcoming personal challenges, or preparing for the next step in their academic and professional journeys, each honoree has made a lasting impact on the College community. Bay College congratulates these exceptional students and looks forward to the many ways they will continue to contribute to their professions, communities, and beyond.
