The Bay College Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the David Bahrman Memorial Scholarship, generously created through donations from friends and family members to celebrate the life, legacy, and agricultural contributions of David Bahrman. The scholarship will support students from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula pursuing agricultural-related programs at Michigan State University through Bay College. This announcement is shared in remembrance of the one-year anniversary of David’s passing on April 17, 2025.

David Bahrman was a lifelong farmer whose work ethic and love for agriculture defined his life. He served as a regional director for Michigan Farm Bureau beginning in 2001 and was inducted into the Michigan Farmers Hall of Fame in 2024 in recognition of his contributions to the agricultural community. Whether handling square bales or working in the fields, David was known for his tireless dedication and was happiest behind the wheel of a tractor.

Born with a complex heart condition, David faced numerous medical challenges throughout his life, including multiple open-heart surgeries. Despite these obstacles, he remained steadfast in his work and commitment to farming. Even as his health declined in later years, he continued to contribute in any way he could, demonstrating remarkable perseverance and strength.

David also had a deep appreciation for Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, often expressing that he felt truly at home once he crossed the Mackinac Bridge during his travels. His connection to the region and its agricultural community is reflected in the scholarship’s focus on supporting UP students.

“David’s life reflected resilience, dedication, and a deep love for agriculture,” said Vicki DeGrand, Executive Director of Foundation and Alumni Relations. “This scholarship ensures his legacy lives on by supporting students who are committed to pursuing careers in agriculture.”
